 What is An Action Centre?

The staff at the Action Centre can help support anyone in Unifor Locals 74 and 156 and IBEW 956 affected by the Domtar layoffs in locating services for education and training, We have a Job Board that is updated frequently. We also have laptops for use by clients.

ALL TRAINING IS FREE TO UNION MEMBERS (unless otherwise stated)

Ongoing Opportunities:

We have approval to provide reimbursement for members who get their DZ license through the NATT safety "DZ Driver Training Fast Track" course. Contact us if you want more information!

Free SMART SERVE Certification. Register at the Action Centre and complete the online training here or from home.  Available until October 2024

Ministry of Health Certified food handler: Classes offered in Sudbury: April 2, May 7, June 4, July 2, and more! (if we can get 15 people they will put on a class in Espanola) Email the Action Centre if interested.

DON'T FORGET TO SUBMIT YOUR SKILLED TRADES ASSESSMENT (and exam fee) PAYMENT RECEIPT (DATED NOVEMBER 1/2023 OR LATER) FOR REIMBURSEMENT FROM THE ACTION CENTRE!

What do they provide?

  • Help with job preparation tools like creating resumes, cover letters, and job applications.

  • Guidance on job search strategies and ongoing coaching throughout your job search.

  • Information about careers, trades, and professions, including apprenticeships.

  • Coaching on life skills that support successful employment.

  • Resources to help with other employability-related issues like housing, transportation, daycare and settlement services.

  • Referrals to other community services and programs, including Literacy and Basic Skills, language training.

  • Identifying and matching career interests, skills, abilities, including self-employment.
